| This Ibanez 524 was built in 1976. There should be a letter in front of the serial number as well. I have an Ibanez 524 that was built in 1978.It has a great tone, but not a lot of volume. I've only had it for less than two weeks, and I believe it will open up. The craftsmanship on the mandolins is outstanding. What price have you been quoted? |

Well. I bought it.
I gave $ 225 for it. Is it to much? |

| I like those old Ibanez mandolins. I don't play mine as my primary mandolin, but I do pick it when I get a chance. Do you have any more photos? |

I believe it had a pickup installed on it, and I believe I might have seeen this mandolin somewhere before, but I could be wrong. The $225 you paid was a steal...you did very well on this Ibanez. As I mentioned, the only thing I really don't like about mine is the lack of volume. It has a great tone, but the volume isn't what I had hoped for. A local luthier said the japenese builders applied too much laquer to the finish, which limited the overall volume. I play a Gibson, which is an absolute hoss of a mandolin, so comparing the two is a little skewed.
Thanks for the pics...How does it sound?
Best wishes,
Mike |
