i have
BTB405QM, DR Black Beauty coated strings
BTB1006EOL, factory Elixirs
now the tone on the 6er is much sweeter, less harsh than the 5er. i thought the 5er had awesome tone, but then the 6er blew me away...
now the 5er has ibanez PUPs and electronics, whereas the 6er has Bart PUPs and electronics...........both have maple tops, but different core woods (basswood vs mahogany) and slightly diff't necks too (maple/walnut vs maple/bubinga).......
so what do you think would have the greatest impact on the difference in tone, so much that even a guitar player noticed?
1. PUPs/electronics
2. strings (Elixir vs DR and slightly diff't guage)
3. body wood
4. neck wood
5. combination of any of the above?
i'm just curious, because i can relatively easily change PUPs and easily change strings......
thx for your opinion and time _________________ 2004 BTB 1006EOL Bass

Hi thrakkor! I think in this case could it be the PUPs (in general), and also age of the strings. But it's just my opinion And I've heard that bubinga is very good exotic wood for basses! I've tried it in a shop, and the sound was a bit...different. By the way, I'm from Czech republic, (Europe) and my English isn't very well, is it?
I also want to collect some information about your BTB 405QM, thrakkor, because I like BTBs and I'm looking forward to buying it The price is, I think very good (about 600 USD) Are there any problems with the 405? And I don't want to be obtrusive, but could anyone who reads this send some photos on my e-mail, if somebody has? I'll be glad for any information.......Thanks a lot , Milan.
PS: How can I write the apostrophe faster? I thing you guys use it much more often than me in czech language
Is: alt+0+3+9 the only way? |

yeah, i'm leaning towards the PUPs myself. i really dig the bartolini ones in my 1006eol. eventually i might have to replace the ibanez ones in the 405QM.
here's a pic of my btb405qm........

$600 USD sounds right, it is what i payed a couple years ago.
i absolutely love my btb405. i have no gripes other than i wish they came with straplocks, but you can easily fix that. tone is excellent and the midrange EQ is very flexible. _________________ 2004 BTB 1006EOL Bass

WOW! Thanks a lot for the pic, your BTB looks great! It's bad that I've never seen any real BTB, because I've never meet anyone in our country who has it and the BTBs are not available till April 2005 in shops (the general Ibanez stock doesn't have any) It's really bad! And I wanted to ask, what color is your BTB405...is it transparent black? If you compare it with basses on the offic.Ibanez site, I think it's TB. I absolutely like the Blackberry colour, but I think it's only for BTB400 and I don't like the Honey sunburst....it's horrible. So,than you and have a nice day..or night? |
