OK, so for the last month or so I've been having this severe issue with pop-ups. Being the IT guy that I am I've been searching through my regristry and Sys32 to find the culprits. I've found one or two, but it doesn't seem to help. It had gotten so bad that it was taking 4 - 5 minutes to start my PC (since all these *Holy Censor, Batman* things initiate on start up). I was getting ready to wipe my hdd and do a fresh install of XP, but a guy at work hooked me up with this freeware program from lavasoft. I ran it tonight, and get this, I had 473 pop-up programs embedded in my registry. No wonder it was taking so long! Anyway, like I said the stuff is free. If you go to lavasofts web site you can download it straight from there. It's only a 1.7mb executable, so it's not too bad of a download on a 56k dial-up connection. I just have to wonder how much of this stuff I picked up from Kazza? _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

LOL...allow me to add a disclaimer now. I just tried to fire up Kazza, and it wont open. Apparently this pop-up remover deleted Kazza's advertising program that is required for you to run it. I guess I answered my own question. _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

Yep, I've used it for ages, no problems in 2 years. The new version 6 is very good indeed and if you want you can upgrade it to include spam killer too... Also check out PestPatrol. My little brother uses it and says it's even better than the AdAware but I've never tried it myself... _________________ Thanks

I'm a vetran of the whole Ad-Aware thing. I usually don't have stuff on my computer, because I'm not my sister, so I'm not a magnet for adware and junk.
As for the Kazaa thing, if you have the now defunct Kazaa-Lite, it doesn't contain any adds or anything, so it isn't affected by programs such as this one. _________________ ~Guitarjeff1112~

Nope, I have the full blown Kazaa 2.6...and it really doesn't like pop-up blockers and fire walls. _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

Yes, Adaware 6.0 ROCKS. I have it on all of the computers at my house. I got it off of major geeks. They have all kinds of handy stuff like that.

If you go into My computer:Control panel:administrative tools:services, some of the stuff in there are popups, the program "Messenger" is the popups that turn on without you being on the internet. And! if you use netscape 7.1, it has a built in popup blocker(regular internet popups) that works well. _________________ Everyone falls... |
