Hello fellow forum users,
I have recently decided that I want to buy a new Ibanez guitar. I currently play a Les Paul and want something new and fresh......
Anyway, I heard that Ibanez guitars are great to play. They feel good, they look good and they have a good range of sounds. However, when I visited my local guitar dealer, he ensured me that Ibanez guitars are just heavy metal/rock guitars, and that because I had a Les Paul, I should opt for a Fender Strat or Tele - having single coil pickups. I think this guy is full of s**t.
Could anybody in here enlighten me on this??? And what guitar would you recommend I buy???
Thanks in advance,
Charloman. |

You're right, that guy at the store is a biased LP/strat frek!!
You run into them all the time!
be weary of those kinda of sales ppl!
While i dont like LP neck profile so i dont own them or strats either, but i at leat have a high appreciation form them and what they mean to music..
I would love to be able to enjoy a LP but i have tried dozens of times..
Ibanez guitars are not just shred machines!
The tone of a guitar comes more from your head and inate ability to produce medlious sounds!
I can take an Ibanez GB or Gibson ES 335 and get pantera sounding riffs to satriani sounding riffs with stock pups..
so dont be fooled.
If you want an Ibanez , first let me know how much you're willing to spend then i can recommend some from there

Thanx for the reply, you make a good point. I didnt believe that guy in the store, all he wanted was my money, all I wanted was an Ibanez - and he hadn't got any.
I am willing to spend about $500 - $600. What could you recommend for that price? What do you think of the S470QS or SA160QM???
thanx again

well, if its between these 2 guitars that you are chosong..
I'd personally go with the S470QSTR
Heres why:
• Wizard II neck
• Jumbo frets
While both models are mahogany bodies with a quilt maple top and both are S designs...
The 470 has the Wizard neck and Jumbo frets...
To me, thats the best combination..
but thats for me and how i play..
if you like those features go with the 470..
if you dont like those 2 main features, go with the SA160 model as it will have a more stratocaster feel to it with med frets and a more radiused fretboard...
the other difference is the SA160 is not a floating tremelo where as the 470 is but its the crappy TRS which i cant recommend...
the trem only sux... but it may have the brand new designed TRS trem which came out only last week so make sure you ask what series the trem is...
check out a new catalog.. there should be some newer models that came out at NAMM last weekend..
Let me know how it all goes
scott
Hope it all helps!! _________________

thanx for all the help....... i have inquired about the S470QS on an online shop called music123.com. The price they are looking for is $500. Do you think this is a reasonable price for this guitar? They tell me that it retails at $800...... If this is correct, it's a good bargain, what do you think?
I am from Ireland and it is very hard to come across an Ibanez guitar, so I have no idea on what they retail at !!!!
Thanx again,

If the guitar list price is 800 and they want 500.00..
thats a fair shake as its only 100 or so iover their cosst.. not a bad deal on a new guitar for the pricing structure..

I actually came to this site just because I love my Ibanez S470BK (no longer produced, last ones made in 2001). S470s are great, they cost less than the "prestige models" that are hard to find, they have a really big range of sounds, and they're really comfortable and thin, I went from a Strat to my S470 and I'm not going back. I'm glad you made the choice to get an S470QS, cuz they're the same thing as mine, just with a cool looking top, tho i like my guitars to be black anyways.
Go for it, get an S470 |
