I can't seem to get a clean note on my G (3rd) string anywhere on the fretboard. Whether low or high with my g string, not one smooth note and it seems to get worse the farther I move up the neck/frets. My E (6th+1st) strings are 2/16" from the 12th fret. I've tried raising and lowering the Floydd, but no changes. I've also tried making fine adjustments with the truss rod. It's got a slight bow in the neck. Could the action+intonation be screwed up and if so why is the G string the only string I'm having problems with? To view my RG's set-up, go here:

Thanx for your time. |

When you say 'clean' note are you meaning there is fret buzz or the key is shifting out from what it should soud like..
As for the pic, its appreciated but unfortunately doent help much in this situation...
Please let me know.
If itsa not an intonation problem, i would suggest getting a caliper and checking the integrity of the fretboard...
has it has any severe climate changes recently??? _________________

Looking at the pics...
This wont help the G string but the trem is set pretty good but it needs to drop down a littlle bit more....
and from what i can tell..
in the pic it looks like this was refretted..
Pure speculation as its almost impossible to be sure by a pic f only a couple frets but thats what I think...
is that true?
how old is this guitar.... _________________

Yeah I guess you can say the note is shifting out. I don't know much about musical terms. It's not smooth and dissipates within a few seconds. How could I explain, o.k. you know when your tuning your guitar, lets say your G (3rd) and B (2nd) strings are slightly out of tune from eachother. When plucking both the G string at the 4th fret and the B string OPEN at the same, you get a nasty shaky sound because of course they aren't tuned to one another. Well that's very similar to the sound that I get my from my open/fretted G string alone. Is there a term for that? The guitar hasn't had any severe climate changes, it's only a few months old. I use 9-42 gauge by the way if it helps.
Is there any way you could explain a little more with use of the caliper? Thanx again. |

Sound like we got the problem targetted...
Lets get it confirmed tho, ok.
Do you know how to check your intonation?
if not, heres an easy way.
Tune the guitar like you do, and then check that g string with a tuner.
Check it played open and at the 12th fret and for fun check it at the 12 fret in an open harmonic...
I get a little anal and check the 24 fret too but you dont need to..
If my suspicians are correct, that note should be falling out of pitch.
If so, the saddle on the trem needs to be adjusted to reset the intonation..
They make tools specially designed for this so it may be worth you picking one up and learning how to set your intonation...
But they are a bit costly...
But after 2 trips to the local music store to fix your guitar, you would have paid for the tool...
let me know how this works out
