What is the difference in tones between nickel and steel strings? Which have a longer play life? Is there any difference in the way they feel? I've always used nickel, but have been curious about steel. _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

I dont use steel strings but i will say this:
Steel doesnt last as long, they arent as smooth feeling and when thye start to wear out, thye get a gritty feel..
They also will rust...
Thats enouggh info for me to never use them..
I'm a strict endorser of D'Addario nickel wound strings...
I play nothing else.
Period.
Excepy on my acoustic, I only use Elixir nano or poly web strings
Hope it helps _________________

Thanks. I was thinking of going to Elixir, but the $$$ thing seems a little ridiculous. Are they really that much better? _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

Its all about preference...
ya know...
I use Elixirs on my Taylor because I don't want to have to change the strings allot as it doesn't get played as often as my electrics...
For electrics.. many ppl like them But I don't recommend them..
That's just me..
Im biased to my D'Addarios...
I made that decision almost 18 years ago....
I have tried allot of the others and was never satisfied with how they felt or sounded or their durability...
Now Im sure Elixir electrics are more durable than the D'Addario's, I stay with D'Addarios...
Let me know what you decide on..
Im also a String dealer for Elixir and D'Addario and pretty much everyone out there... _________________

I have to say MHO is that I have tried all the brands out there and I always seem to come back to good ol' D'Addarios. I'm currently have my IBY 4 string with Prism 45-105. THEY SOUND AWESOME!!!! but thats just my opinion and I'm sure everyone else has there own prefrence. |

I've really grown to like the Elixir's. They tone down the brightness a lot of the new basses seem to have, give a little more thump. Man, I completely forgot about this thread, thanks for bringing it back from the dead, 6 stringer. BTW, welcome aboard. _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

well I currently use Elixr's on my electric
and flatwound electric strings on my Ovation.
Flatwounds are so cool, but they're making my hands too soft. When I use regular strings, they cut up my fingers. _________________ ~Guitarjeff1112~
