I just found this site from bassdogs.com. As the title states, I am new to the bass. Not even 2 weeks into it, and I love it. I borrowed an old Fender MusicMaster for a week, then went to Guitar Center and bought a GSR200 and Crate MXB25. I think I'm catching on very quickly. I hope to learn much from everyone here, with little annoyance.
Please pardon my first and second (dumb) question. The GSR200 comes with passive pups, right? There is a cover on the back held in with 5 screws. Is this for an active pup setup? I took the screws out, but the cover did not budge, and I did not feel like breaking anything. Plus my wife was giving me a hard time about tearing up a brand new guitar. _________________ "What do I know...I'm just a glorified window washer." |

Seracis,
From memory I think the screws you removed were to the electronics cavity. I'd have to see what you were talking about to be sure, but by the way you described it I think that's what you're refering to. Welcome to thumping! By the way, just tell your wife tearing your bass apart is part of the learning process. _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

when the time comes to replace the pups, what do you recommend? I've read about EMG's, Bart's, Seymour Duncan's, and a few others. Some people have to me to save the $ and buy a better bass. That will happen one of these days, far down the road, but I'm just curious. _________________ "What do I know...I'm just a glorified window washer." |

It really depends on what style of music you play. I prefer Duncans myself. They have a warmer, fuller tone then EMG's. If you're playing metal, though, and need that real crisp, bright tone then you may want to consider EMG's. I would recommend a higher end bass rather then replacing the pups in the one you have. Just my opinion, though. _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

thanks, I think that will be the plan. I'm already looking at some 5 string fretted. No sense piling a ton of cash into this bass. Not that I ever plan to sell it, but I AM still learning and I have a long way to go. Thanks again, even if you are a Gibson fan! _________________ "What do I know...I'm just a glorified window washer." |

Gibson? Naw man, it's all about the Fenders! Thumpin' a 5 string Jazz right now. Looking to get rid of it though, the extra wide neck has destroyed my hand. I've had my hand in a brace more then I've had my hands on the neck since I've owned this thing. I'm looking at a Precission right now. I guess you could say I'm going back to the basics. _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |
