One step closer...

I had lunch with the V.P. of sales from my firm today. Over the last 9 months I've been attempting to make a cross over from the consulting side of the business to the Account Management and Marketing side. Today we came to somewhat of a compromise. I didn't get exactly what I wanted, but I'm much closer now. I will continue to employ my services as a consultant. On my own time, I will get leads for possible sales contracts. I don't have to close, or even make contacts, I just have to get leads. The leads will then go to the sales dept and they will attempt to get the contracts. If they close the contract the sales rep and I split the initial commision. The account will then go into a general house portfolio. Once the residuals in that portfolio reach my current salary I will be taken off consultant status, be given that portfolio, and the residual will become my base salary with the companies being my initial accounts. Basically, I'm building my sales portfolio with the security of having a 9 - 5 job and steady paycheck. A little confusing, but I'm breaking into a field that requires a masters degree, and I don't even have my high school diploma, so I'll take what I can get for now and let my abilities secure my position.
