I found a used Tube works 100 watt for $400 still in great condition, as much power as you could need playing with anyone else and great sound. I've heard lots of bad stuff about peavy and fender amps. Ibanez also has a new line of amps out, the 225 is comparable to the tubeworks I got but it has built in chorus, a plus. Suggestion: find something you like, play through it, bring your own guitar too, that way you know what YOU are going to sound like and not what a higher or lower quality guitar sounds like through it, and go from there. That's what I did and I am thrilled with my purchase.

Drain - what you're asking for has pawn shop written all over it. You take a little chance buying second hand, but buying new you get what you pay for with amps, heads, and speakers. There aren't really any good sleeper deals when it comes to amps. cheap+big=crap when it comes to sound. You have to be willing to lay down the cash if you're buying new.

Agreed...
Unless you find a Boogie or Marshall TSL, or Rivera, VHT, Bogner at a Pawn shop..

Then its worth buying used....

For thqat matter, most any tube amp used is a safer buy.

'SOlid state amp crap out to often and too easy...

but then, you may not even know what the real differences are anyway...
