I got a used Roadstar 2 bass off Ebay. The serial # is K833119. It's built like a tank, (sounds and feels like an old Fender) Someone says it might be a RB630 model? Anyone have some info on it? The body wood looks alder or ash. The pickups sound excellent and the previous owner says they were upgrades from Ibanez? maybe dimarzios. I plan to refinish it. Not sure what the original color was. |

Welcome, X. Nice bass. I wasn't able to pull anything up on the serial number, but I'm pretty sure it's an '83 model. I wasn't even able to find an 80's catalog to compare photos to verify, but I'll keep looking. _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

| That bass should be the 3119 one made in November of 1983. |

Im the bass player and i was wondering if any of you could tell me about my RoadStarII....I have looked for any information on this and have yet to find anything....
Thats actually a very bad example so i'll describe what your looking at.....
It's an Ibanez RoadstarII series....The neck is painted red along with the body of the guitar...It has a set of split coil pickups covered to make it look as if it is a soapbar....The Bridge pickup is much like that of a jazz basses but instead of the normal 8 dots it has two ovals....ummm also it has a black border around the outside of the face of the guitar.....It has the two on one side two on the other headstock....anyone? |

That is actually an RB650 (not a 630). The 650 sported the precision pickup AND the Jazz pickup configuration, whereas the RB630 only utilized the precision pickups. Here is an RB630 (mine to be exact).

No. Its definitely an RB650 and it isn't a 1983 model either. According to the catalogs (I have all the catalogs from 1978 to the present), the only Roadstar II models in '83 were the RB820, 840, 920, 924, and the 940. The RB630 and 650 (with the jazz pickup & precision p/u) didn't come out until the following year (1984). Mine is an 1986 model that I fixed up with a custom pickguard, knobs, and a BadAss II bridge. Originally, I paid $250 in good/used condition. _________________ The Saint |

The RB630 never had a jazz pickup, only the precision pickups. The RB650 had both. If you posted a pic, I could check my catalog. _________________ The Saint |

I have an old Roadstar, its k833119, natural wood and maple neck. I think it has DiMarzios, or so I have been told. Think I got it in 1984, bought it new at Pete's Music in LODO Denver (then it was the industrial district.) It might be a 630, any ideas? I have pictures of it, how do I dl them to this site?

The K83 portion of the serial # tells us that its an 83 model. Does it have the staggered precision pickups & the jazz pickup (its the skinny one closer to the bridge) or just the precision pickups? If you have both - its an RB650. If just the Precision pups - then its the RB630. To post picks, use this code: <img src="post picture here" Make sure you have a space between "img" and 'src". There will be no space for the rest. _________________ The Saint |

| I found a picture of it on www.ibanezregister.com/gallery/basses/rb/gal-rb620.htm It is my belief that this is my exact bass. It just has the staggered pickup only, volume and tone. It is a light wood and has the maple neck. Very sturdy bass. I am looking to upgrade the pickups. It was pretty basic, think I paid about 250.00 for it new. Maybe 300.00 Therefore, I believe its the RB620. |

Yep, that is the RB630. That was the last year they used the "tulip" headstock on that model of Roadstar II. The next year, they went with a fender look-alike style of headstock (& gave it the RB630 designator) and stuck with that until they came out with the Roadstar I models in the later 80's. Yes, Roadstar II came out before the Roadstar I series. This was because the Roadstar II series was actually supposed to be the Roadster II series (there was already a Roadster series of bass and these were to be the successors to that line). But a printing error was made when they manufactored the headstock, so they just stuck with it. I little bit of Ibanez history for you there. _________________ The Saint |
