Um, NO! Everyone step back, I'm getting up on my soap box. For starters, any company that makes guitars should stay out of the amp arena. Fender, Ibanez, Gibson, all of them make crappy amps. I have yet to hear a decent amp made by a guitar manufacturer, much less one with enough tone and range that would get me fired up enough to drop my hard earned cash on it. Certain companies (Fender, Ibanez, Gibson, G&L, MusicMan) make great insturments, others (Marshall, Mesa, SWR, GK, Ampeg) make great amplification. If you're good at one thing, stick with it. You wouldn't purchase a guitar by Crate, would you? (I hope not, anyway.) So why get your amplification from a guitar manufacturer. I don't know about Scott, but my heads and cabs have a tendency to stick around a lot longer then my axes. Save the $$$ and get something that will last. When you're playing live the bottom line is how you sound. I've heard the most basic blues guitarist get the greatest compliments because they "sounded" good. I've also heard some of the most technicaly proficient musicians get slammed because they "sounded" tinny and sterile. Remember young ones, the majority of your audience are musical idiots. They wouldn't know talent if it came up and b*tch slapped 'em. They want you to sound good. A good Marshall head and cab set up can make even your mistakes sound full and rich and that's what the audience wants. OK, I'm stepping off my soap box now. Thank you and good night. _________________ Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate up hill. |

| Peavey makes good guitars, and very good amps like the 5150 and the Triple X. I love those amps. |

hmmmm.....i do not totally agree.
fender makes good quality guitars and legendary amps as well. see how many of them made their way into line6's POD and vetta and other amps.
infact marshalls evolved from fenders the same way soldanos evolved from marshalls.
on every amp there are pros and cons.
fender amps give beautiful and clean pristine sound and a nice overdrive but are not too fancied in the high gain arena....
marshalls on the other hand are not too favoured for its clean sounds.
as the dude above mentioned, peavey is another example for fine work on both guitars and amps. however on certain models only.
line6 is another company great with amps and guitars. have u tried the variax? nice to play with and awesome sounds. can't wait to get my hands on the variax 700 as it is an upgrade from the previous model in the playability and cosmetics area. |

Indeed Dan!
I invest good money on quality amps!
My first Mesa I kept for almost 12 years or so.
Then I went thru a huge amp phase and bought everything from the 5150 to the TSL 100 to the VHT Ultra Lead dual and triple recto etc..
I finally decided on keeping the dual recto solo head!.
That baby will be with me for a long time!!
In addition to the great tone, I overdrive the amp with a star mod DS-1 from Keeley Electronics...
Ever wonder where Vai and Satch get some of their great distortions and how it comes with a DS1..
Now ya know!!
As for the other amps mentioned.. Fender has a strong name in it's niche genre and thousands of ppl absolutely love them.
But otherwise... with the exception of very few isolated products, most guitar makers, amp aren't worth the time or money... but then again, a freebie is a freebie too

To bring an old issue back from the dead, I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN AN IBANEZ AMP!
We have a Fender P.A system that we used to use for the vocals in my band (or the band that I'm in, more poignantly), but I think it was too mellow.
For my bass, I have used nothing but Roland in the past, but have recently had to grab a trace elliot quad box and head, due to the Roland's expiration.
But I agree with the rhetoric: guitar and amps are two very seperate fields, and when one goes messing with the other, people get hurt! _________________ Most people are as happy as they make their minds up to be. - Lincoln. |
