Well I ordered a Xiphos from American Musical Supply a couple of weeks ago got and loved it but there was a terrible fret buzz/dead note when I fretted the D string on the 14th fret. It was buzzing on the 15th fret. I took it to a local Ibanez repair place and they said it really is unacceptable for a brand new guitar to have such a bad high/low fret on it and to send it back. So i contacted AMS and they were great about the whole exchange process. So on Friday I get my new Xiphos...fret buzz again on the 14th fret but this time on the G-string. (Yes I know I said G-string) It's not as bad of a dead note as the other Xiphos but I have to set up my action a lot higher than I think necessary to make the note sound somewhat clear.
I'm really disappointed about this because I love the guitar, the pickups, the finish, the style but so far I have two of them with fret problems. I have worked on adjusting the action, adding tension/relieving tension on the neck, I adjusted the tilt of the tremolo. Even when I took it to the repair place they said the only thing that could be done is to dress the frets. Should I have to have that done to my brand new guitar???? Is this a problem with AMS that they sent me two guitars that have high/low frets? Or is this an Ibanez quality control issue?
I'm at the point where I'm not sure what to do. I could send it back to AMS and get another guitar completely (maybe a different company even) or I could keep it and take it to the repair place and have them dress the frets but they said that would cost around $80 dollars and even though it's under warranty Ibanez doesn't pay a lot for a repair like this and might pay $20 of that $80 because it's under warranty.
Does anyone have any advice?
